  • Rhineland

    Rhineland
    Hitler takes his chnaces and takes the Rhineland. The Rhineland was a demilitarized zone. He was unsure wether France would attack or not, so he did order a retreat if that were to happen.
  • Roosevelt's Quarantine Speech

    Roosevelt's Quarantine Speech
    Speech given by FDR to have international help to stop the aggressors of the war.
  • Anschluss

    Anschluss
    Hitler makes an agreement with Austria. He dreamed of annexing Austria, He wanted to create a union between the two countries. So on March 12th, he marched into Austria and announced "anschluss."
  • Munich Conference

    Munich Conference
    Hitler, Mussolini, Daladier, and Chamberlian had a meeting. They appeased the Sudentenland (part of Czechoslovakia) to Germany in trade for peace. They also promised Hitler high percenages of natural resources.

    Nazi-Soviet Nonaggressive Pact
    Nazi-Soviet Nonaggressive Pact- Germany and the Soviet Union promise not to attack eachother. Helps Hitler so he won't have to fight on two fronts, and gives Soviets time to build up their armies.

    Hitler had already taken France, the rhineland, and part of Czech. He realized noone cared to stop him, so he invaded Poland.
  • Sitzkrieg (Phoney War)

    Sitzkrieg (Phoney War)
    After Hitler invaded and took over Poland, all of the neighboring countries entered into a "phoney war" they all that that they were going to be attacked next, so they waited. It was winter, so Hitler was building his army, and keeping to himself. Phony war ended in the spring when Hilter invaded Denmark.

    Battle of the Alantic
    When Britain declared war on Germany, Germany used thier u-boats to sink merchant ships. Cut off all supply to Britian, and was one of the most significant battles of the war.
  • Neutrality Act of 1939

    Neutrality Act of 1939
    "cash and carry" policy. Allowed America to trade weapons with foreign countries, only if the forigners used thier own ships, and paid in cash.
  • Hitler Takes France.

    Hitler Takes France.
    1940 was a big year for Hitler and his army. By June of 1940, Hitler had taken Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France France had been conquered and divided in two, and the armistance was signed on the 22nd of June.

    Put intact by FDR. The Lend-Lease Act allowed American aid to the Allies during the war.
  • Alantic Charter

    Alantic Charter
    Agreement between Roosevelt and Churchill to not obtain any land, and work towrds peace after the war.

    Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, this was what made America intervene. Pearl Harbor was a tragedy for America, but helped push the US to get involved and take down Hitler.

    Baatan Death March
    US surrendered the city of Baatan in the Philippines to Japan. Captured people had to make a 65 mile march to the prisons.
  • Corregidor Falls

    Corregidor Falls
    The Fortress of Corregidor, in the Manila harbor fell to Japan. Japan then had more control in the Philippines.
  • Battle of the Coral Sea

    Battle of the Coral Sea
    The Battle of the Coral sea was fought only in the air, and it stopped Japan from advancing on Australia.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    The US weakened Japan's navy, and broke Japanese codes.
  • Bloody Tarawa

    Bloody Tarawa
    "Bloody Tarawa" and Makin fell. They were both located in the GIlbert Islands. Even though these were small islands, the marine corps suffered numerous casualties.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    On June 6th, 1944 the US entered Normany France. Their goal was to liberate all the countries from Hitler's control. The liberated France, then quickly moved into Germany.
  • Battle of the Philippine Sea

    Battle of the Philippine Sea
    America dominated Japan from the sea, land and the air, and the Japanese Navy never recovered.
  • Battle of the Leyte Gulf

    Battle of the Leyte Gulf
    Last large battle in the Pacific. Japan's navy no longer threatened the allies. Philippines was recaptured by the US.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    Offensive campign by Hitler to attack the US from the Ardenne Forest. US army and the allies defeated the last German offensive on the western front. It got its name because of the bulge in the defensive line of the US.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    Meeting of FDR, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin to make postwar plans. The meeting was held in Crimea Russia.
  • Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima
    6 week battle to control the island of Iwo Jima. It would be used to launch bombs on Japan.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    Bloodiest battle in the Pacfic. This battle lasted almost 82 days.
  • Roosevelt Dies

    Roosevelt Dies
    On April 12, 1945, FDR passes away due to severe cerebral hemorrhage. He collapsed and was pronounced dead 2 hours later.
  • Mussolini is Assasinated

    On April 28, 1945 Benito Mussolini was overthrown and assasinated.
  • Hitler's Suicide

    Hitler's Suicide
    On April 30th, 1945, Hitler and his mistress got married and made an agreement to commit suicide by digesting cyanide. Hitler then shot his dog, ate the cyanide and shot himself. He had ordered men to burn thier bodies afterwards.

    On the afternoon of May 8th, 1945, the United States, and Britain were rejoicing over their victory. German finally surrendered on all fronts, and the war in Europe was over. Now, Japan was the only worry..

    From July 17th to August 2nd, Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Harry Truman meet to discuss negotiation plans, and divide Germany into 4 parts.
  • Japan Surrenders

    Japan Surrenders
    Japan finally surrenders. On the morning of September 2, 1945, Japan signed 2 papers of surrender. Then the rest of the allies followed in the signing. The whole war was now over.
