  • Blitzkrieg

    Germans bombmed, and invasded Poland. This was also called lightning war, because of the advances made by the Germans, After hearing the news the British Primeminister Neville Chamberlain told hitler that if he didn't unarm his army and stop the invasion he would declare war. Hitler ignored his ultimatum and on September 3, 1939 (two days leter) Britain declared war, and a week later so did Canada.
  • Britain Declare War on Germany

    Shortly after the Germans invaded Poland, Britain and Canada declared war on Germany.
  • The Battle of Dunkirk

    The Battle of Dunkirk was a battle between the Allies, and Germany, it was a part of the Battle of France which took place on the Western Front. At the end, the Germans won, and the Allies quickly evacuated Germany.
  • The Battle of Britain

    Operation Sea Lion was a code name for the German attack on the British Royal Air-Force. This was a battle that took place in the air, and for weeks the Germans tried to take out all of the Royal Air-Forces, and when they were colse to victory Hitler called off all attacks that occured in the daytime, because he perfered bobmbing them at night instead.
  • The Blitz

    The city of London was bombed by the Luftwaffe for 76 nights consecutively, and so were many cities across the country. More than one million homes in London were either destroyed or damaged, and more than 40,000 people were killed, half of them in being in London.
  • Tojo takes control of Japan

    Tojo takes control of Japan.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Japanese aircrafts bombed American air, and naval bases. It was only dawn, and the Japanese bombed the Americans while they were unprepared, they signaled that by giving the code "Tora! Tora!" by 9:30 that morning, the Japanese destroyed 18 ships, and killed about 4,000 men.
  • The Fall of Hong Kong

    Japan invades Hong Kong, they invaded with about 50,000 troops, and killed about 2,000 people. They occupied Hong Kong for a good couple of weeks.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle of WWII, it was also considered a turning point in WWII, and in Europe. This is when Nazi Germany and her allies attacked Soviet Russia to gain total control over the city of Stalingrad. In this battle the military didn't mind having civilian casualties, as long as Germany didn't gain control of the city.The German Army was lead by General Paulus.   • Allied Invasion of Italy

    Allies invaded Italy, Mussolini was taken out of power, and Italy changed sides. Hitler then brought many of his troops into Italy.
  • D-Day

    160,000 Allied troops landed along a heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded.
  • The Battle of Iwo Jima

    The Battle of Iwo Jima, also known as "Operation Detachment" was a major battle in which the Americans fought for contol of a small Japanese island called Iwo Jima. The Americans took control of three airfields, this battle was considered the most gruesome of all battles in WWII.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Axis conquers vast areas of the Soviet Union and inflicts heavy losses on the Red Army, but fails in its overall strategic goal of defeating the USSR in a Blitzkrieg like campaign.
  • The Bombing of Hiroshima

    On this day, the US A-bombed the Japanese city of Hiroshima, causing thousands of instant deaths.
  • The Bombing of Nagasaki

    The US first bombed Hiroshima, and then Nagasaki, casualties were said to be around 60- 90,000. Shortly after this, Japan surrendered.
