    VE Day
    During VE Day both Great Britain and United States celebrate the surrender of Nazi Germany. The name VE Day stands for Victory in Europe not to be confused with VJ Day which comes later in the year.

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    In 1939 Nazi Germany was funding research in atomic bombs which had scared the rest of the world. In 1940 THe U.S. government decided to fund it's own atomic research, called Project Manhattan, mostly by refugees from European countries. In early August of 1945 the first U.S. atomic bomb was dropped from a B-29 bomber onto the Japanese city Hiroshima. Nine days later Japan surrendered in WWII because of "a new and most cruel bomb."
