    The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle of WWII, featuring naval warfare between German and Allied forces and ships in the Atlantic Ocean. The Canadian Air Force defended from the Germans as they tried to conquer the Atlantic Ocean so that they could cut off American and Britain troop and resource supply lines. The Battle lasted from September 3 of 1939 to May 8, 1945. It had a big impact on the war, allowing the allies to still be able to transport troops and resources back and forth.

    The Battle of Britain featured fighting between Germany's Luftwaffe and Britain's Royal Air Force. The battle was the first fought solely in the air. It occurred in aerospace over Germany, Britain, and the English Channel, and lasted from July 10 to October 31 of 1940. The Battle of Britain's impact was huge, being the first battle fought solely in the air. It demonstrated the technological advancements made since the first war and showed off Britain and Germany's air forces.

    The Battle of Bataan was the first major victory for the Japanese that led to their conquering of the Philippines. It lasted from January 7, 1942 to April 9, 1942, in Bataan, where 76,000 U.S. and Filipino troops defending the Philippines surrendered and were forced to walk 60 miles in extreme heat with not food or water. The significance of the Battle of Bataan saw the Americans fight in their first major land battle of WWII, and also the biggest surrender in U.S. history.

The six-day battle prevented the Japanese from taking over a military base in the middle of the ocean near Hawai'i. Because of the Americans victory, it directly impacted and stunted Japan's efforts at gaining territory in the Pacific.

Its impact: it was the first major offensive for the Allies, and the first of many invasions in their "island-hopping" campaign.

It was ultimately designed to relieve pressure from the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front with Germany. The battle lasted from November 8, 1942 to May 13 of 1943. The battle was significant because it relieved pressure off of Russia after the American victory, and it helped Russia regain control of what they were doing.

    The Battle of Stalingrad was the German invasion of Stalingrad in the Soviet Union. It featured fighting between German forces and Soviet forces. The battle started as a major offensive in German favor but as winter rolled along, the USSR regathered itself and dealt substantial damage to German forces, ending in a Soviet victory. The battle lasted from August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943. It had a huge impact for Russia, helping them regain control at the Eastern front and stunt Germany's army.

    D-Day is one of the most famous days in modern history. D-Day was a major invasion of the Normandy beaches launched by American, Canadian, and Britain forces against the German forces. Almost 160,000 landed on the five beaches along the 50-mile stretch they would invade at dawn on June 6, 1944. The entire operation would not end until August 30, 1944. It had a massive impact on the war, being the turning point for the Allies, who would liberate France and the rest of Europe after the invasion.

It featured fighting between U.S. and Japanese forces, that occurred from October 23, 1944 to October 26, 1945 in the Leyte Gulf. It was significant as it marked the first victory of America's invasions in the Pacific, and open up the chance to start their "island-hopping" campaign.

    The Battle of the Bulge was an unsuccessful German counteroffensive to the Allies successful invasion of Normandy on D-Day. The battle featured fighting between the U.S. Army and the German Army. Being one of the bloodiest of the war, it lasted from December 16, 1944 to January 25, 1945 and occurred in the Ardennes Forest of Belgium. Its impact: it was the final offensive for Germany, and because they took heavy losses, it would open up an easy way for the Allies to invade Germany.

    The Battle of Iwo Jima, most famously known for the picture of the soldiers raising the flag on the rock, was the Allied invasion of the island of Iwo Jima which featured fighting between the U.S. Marine Corps and Imperial Japanese forces. The battle lasted from February 19, 1945 to March 26 of 1945 on Iwo Jima Island. It was yet another battle in the island-hopping campaign that they would win, and push closer to Japan because of the victory for the Allies.

    The Battle of Okinawa was a battle on the Japanese-controlled island of Okinawa south of Japan. The battle was the last major battle of WWII, which ended in an American victory that would push the Allies extremely close to the island of Japan and ending the war. The battle would last from April 1, 1945 to June 22 of 1945. It was extremely important as it would open up a number of options for President Truman to end the war, since they were extremely close to the mainland of Japan.
