    On September 3, 1939, Great Britain and France declare war on Germany. They told Germany to not attack Poland so there would be no war. They did not listen so on September 3, they both declared war on Germany.

Later he then switched to bombing the cities, this allowed Britain to rebuild their military lost. At the end of September he postponed the invasion indefinitely.

    Japanese aircraft attacked the naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. By doing this the Japanese thought they would create a new "community" of colonies (that same day they had additional assaults on the Philippines and Malaya). They were wrong because of this the U.S. had a mutual feeling of joining the war.

    One day later, on December 8. 1941, the United States declared war on Japan, bringing us into war. The U.S. joined up with the Allied Powers in hope to end the war. Hitler, thinking that the United States would become ineffective in the Europian theatre, then declared war on the United States, starting the second world war.

    On June 6, 1944, history's greatest naval invasion took place. The Allied forces, led by U.S. general Dwight D. Eisenhower landed on the beaches of Normandy where they fought through underwater mines, barbed wire, and horrible machine gun fire.     After the breakout on the Normandy beaches, the Allies began to take back land lost. In March of 1945, the Allies crossed the Rhine River and advanced into Germany where they met up with the Soviets. On April 30th (two days after Mussolini was shot) Hitler committed suicide in his bunker. On May 7, the German officials surrendered ending the war in Europe but the rest of the world didn't know till May 8.

    Even though war in Europe was over, we still had to deal with the Asian Theater. Truman thought that if using atomic weapons it would avoid an invasion and more casualties. On August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and three days later a second and final one was dropped on Nagasaki. Japan finally surrendered on August 14, 1945, while the rest of the world figured out August 15th.

    On the USS Missouri, Japan formally surrendered to the United States, finally bringing the war to an end. It was estimated that 17 million died in battle. In total including civilians it is estimated that around 50 million people died in the war.
