    Blitzkrieg means lightning war. It was a German tactic which allowed Germany to quickly and efficiently conquer land. Blitzkrieg was used to conquer Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands and France.

    The Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii hoping to scare the US into joining the Axis Powers. This lead to the US declaration of war.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Germany attempted to invade the Russian city of Stalingrad. Russia succefully drove off German forces. Hitler was humiliated by this defeat because he made this battle seem overly important in the eyes of the Geman people.

    Britain, America, Canada, and France landed on the beach of Normandy, France and fought Germany. This allowed the Allies to recapture France and was the "beginning of the end of war in Europe."

    The largest battle fought on the Western Front during World War II and largest battle fought by the US. Germany tried to divide the US and UK forces but they lost causing a bulge in the US line.

    The Allies freed the prisoners of concentration camps and tried to save their lives. However half the people alive when Auschwitz was liberated died shortly after.

    The US Marines landed on the Japanise island of Iwo Jima and captured it after a month of fighting.

    German surrendered marking the end of fighting in Europe

    Dropping of the atomic bombs
    The US dropped two atomic bombs on Japan one on Hiroshima and one on Nagasaki. This immediately killed 120,000 people. Many more died from radiation poisioning.
