    The Battle of the Atlantic

    Just as in WWI, Canada port cities and ships were essential to supplying the war effort. Ships from Canada would carry weapons, soldiers, food, clothing and more to Britain. This was a vital lifeline to keep the Allied war effort alive. Ships going to and from Canada were under constant threat of German ‘U-Boats’.

    Battle of Britain

    In the summer and fall of 1940, German and British air forces clashed in the skies over the United Kingdom, locked in the largest sustained bombing campaign to that date. A significant turning point of World War II, the Battle of Britain ended when Germany’s Luftwaffe failed to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force despite months of targeting Britain’s air bases, military posts and, ultimately, its civilian population.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii, and was the scene of a devastating surprise attack by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. Just before 8 a.m. on that Sunday morning, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base, where they managed to destroy or damage nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships, and over 300 airplanes.

It stopped the German advance into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the Allies. The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the bloodiest battles in history, with combined military and civilian casualties of nearly 2 million.

    Italian campaign

    The Italian campaign was a series of Allied beach landings and land battles from Sicily and southern Italy up the Italian mainland toward Nazi Germany.

    D-Day which occurred on June 6, 1944, resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning. Canada's objective was to invade Juno beach and Canada was successful.

    In December 1944, Adolph Hitler attempted to split the Allied armies in northwest Europe by means of a surprise blitzkrieg thrust through the Ardennes to Antwerp in an attempt to catch the allies off guard. Germany lost to the Allies sealing the fate of the German army.
