    Under the leadership of Colonel James H. Doolittle the US began to bomb Japan, including its capital, Tokyo. This is important because a lot of pepole were hurt in these bombings and it intensified the war.

    The US and Japan engaged in a battle for the island of Midway. Midwat was an island essential for recharging planes to fly to the other continent. In the end the US was victorious.     After having issued an ultimatum to Japan, stating that if they did not surrender they would suffer great ruin, which the Japanese denied.
