    On June 28, 1914, the Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. Franz was riding in a car in Sarajevo. Franz and his wife both got shot while in the car. After this happened, Austria issued an ultimatum to Serbia.

    On August 1st, 1914, Germany's Kaiser Wilhelm declared war on Russia. They declared war because Russia supported Serbia, and Germany saw that as a threat to their allies, Austria-Hungary. Russia started to prepare troops and other things for their military, and Germany told them to stop, but they didn't, which led to Germany declaring war. This all happened only four days after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary.

    The Hundred Days Offensive was a big turning point in the war for the Allies and ultimately led to the end of the war. The Allies' end goal was to take back all the land lost in the Spring from Germany. French General Ferdinand Foch was in charge of commanding all of the Allies on the Western Front. The British Empire attacked Northern France around the city of Armiens while the French army pushed through the Hindenburg Line. The Americans later helped push the Germans back on September 26th.

    Armistice Day marks the end of World War I when Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allied powers. The war in total killed 9 million people and wounded 21 million. The war is called the "war to end all wars because of the amount of deaths and destruction. The Treaty of Versailles was the agreement for peace. It was signed in Paris, France, a year after the war. The treaty held Germany responsible for the war, which made them pay for all of the destruction and loss of territory.
