  • Germany invades Poland

    Hitler invaded Poland with hopes of taking it over as part of the new German empire. He bombed Poland through his mighty air force the luftwaffe. After an extensive bombing he brought in his amour and behind that his infantry. this new tactic was called Blitzkrieg. Britain responded with their own bomb raids over Germany.
  • Battle of Britain

    Continued until October 31st this battle was the only battle to be fought by air only. The german Luftwaffe attacked and bombed most of Britain for an extended period of time. After Germany's air power had been decimated however the germans were forced to pull back.
  • The Battle of Stalingrad

    continued until february 2nd 1943 the battle of Stalingrad was the succesfull defense of the soviet town of Stalingrad. For days the germans and russians were engaged in tight areas in an urban area. The battle ended however when the soviets out flanked the german occupation force and destroyed it.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    The Battle of the Bulge was the final german offensive on the allied powers. Germany took all of the resources they had avalaible and dumped it into this opertation. Germany tried to go through belgium and france and many other areas in order to capture an important port known as Antwerp. The assualt was a massive failure and put Germany in an awful position in which they could not escape.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    The American ausualt of Iwo Jima was the result of the island being a key piece to a chain of islands. If japan lost the island then the US would have a key stronghold to adavnce upon Japan. Japan used tactics such as using underground tunnels to ambush american troops as well as using digouts, caves, and whole installations that were difficult to destroy.
  • VE Day

    VE day was victory in Europe day. It was the day that Germany finally surrendered and the conflict in Europe was over. General Jodi of Germany signed the unconditional surrender document. There was no nationwide notification of the surrender until late that afternoon,
  • Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact was the alliance of Germany and Soviet Russia
