    -international meetings that settle on agreements
    -Humanitarian Law of Armed Conflicts, which was a set of rules for wounded or captured military
    -it had four treaties and three additional protocols

    -German Jews were no longer considered citizens, instead they were subjects.
    -Aryans were the only ones with actual rights
    -This led to the holocaust
  • Neutrality Act

    -in attempt to keep the US out of war
    -banned transporting goods to belligerent ports
    -this helped keep the us neutral by removing any political that the us would have

    -japan invaded china but failed and ruined their relationship
  • Kristallnacht

    The act of Nazi’s burning synagogues and ransacking Jewish businesses and homes established that it was going to be impossible to survive in Germany if you were Jewish.
    It showed the lengths Hitler was already willing to go to just to further oppress the Jewish population in Germany while also showing how much hatred the citizens had for Jewish people.

    -The us would only trade with axis if they paid in cash and transported it

    -Germany invaded the soviet union, breaking the nonaggression pact.

    --The soviet union and Germany said they would not fight for the next 10 years while Europe was about to break into war. The soviet union did this so they could build peace while he builds his military. Germany did this so they could invade Poland unopposed.

    -Tension was at an all time high and then Germany invaded Poland prompting the allies of the country to declare war on Germany.
    -Showed that the US was still very much not trying to get into another war with Europe despite the possible effects.

    -Luftwaffe was formidable but didn’t take into account the resolve of Churchill and their hatred of Nazism.

  • Tripartite Pact

    -It was created with the intent to keep the US out of the war and in an isolationist state.
    -Germany, Italy, and Japan formed an alliance with each other and were going to aid each other in the event of another country declaring war
  • Lend-Lease Plan

    -Initially created to help aid Britain in their fight against fascism but later reached out to help other allies which of course really cemented US opposition to fascism regimes.
    -This policy had many people believing that it gave the President too much power and caused tension between them and others how thought it to be a necessary cost.

    -japan wanted to take out america's navy as quick as they could
    -they did this to prevent the pacific fleet from messing up Japanese conquest of Malaya and the dutch East indies.

    -It was a victory of intelligence because of the POW the US captured and were able to obtain vital information from.

    Liberation of Concentration Camps

    -Germany tried to hide the evidence of their genocide from allied troops but they inevitably found remnants of gas chambers and other appalling things.
    -Created crimes against humanity and caused social tension between Germany and the rest of the world.
  • D-Day

    -One of the best military accomplishments in history because of the sheer scope and what it meant for the free world.
    -It stunted the spread of fascism and gave hope to a ton of people.
  • Bulge

    -It really cemented the fact that Germany wasn’t going to be able to turn the scales of this war and undermined their hopes of winning.
    -It was Germany’s last failed attempt to push the Allies out of German territory.
  • Korematsu v. US

    -This trial helped to alter the government’s ability to detain U.S. citizens whose loyalty is to the states no matter their ancestral background which was highly debated because Korematsu was of Japanese descent.
    -It caused even more tension between the government and Japanese Americans whom were placed in internment camps out of fear of retaliation against the US gov

    -The soviets and GB + US didn’t agree on what should happen to Poland with USSR wanting a communist Poland.
    -USSR and China signed a pact of alliance and friendship.

    -One of the bloodiest battles in the US Marine Corps history really proved just how far both Japan and the US were willing to go to beat each other in this war and the tension between the countries.
    -This battle was extremely costly for the US but they eventually took over and won this battle.
  • VE day

    -Stands or victory in Europe it commemorates the surrender of Nazi Germany.
    -It was a relief for the European part of the war to be over and released some tension that came from fighting a war on two

    Potsdam Conference

    -US and USSR didn’t trust each other like at all with the US telling them about the atomic bomb when they already knew because of their intelligence agencies or something.
    -It was pretty evident that the harsh reparations of the treaty of Versailles fueled the rise of Nazi Germany.
  • Atomic Bomb Hiroshima

    -america dropped the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima in japan
    -america tested the first atomic bomb and then released it a month later in Hiroshima
  • Atomic Bomb Nagasaki

    -three days after the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, they released one in Nagasaki
    -after this bomb was dropped it led japan to surrender, ending ww2
  • VJ day

    -Japan surrenders and relief is felt by both sides who had a tremendous amount of casualties in the war in the Pacific.
    -Was a cause for celebration for the US who had created the atomic bomb and wanted to put an end to US casualties.
