    The first major military campaign that was completely fought by air forces. Great Britain's Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy successfully defended against large-scale Nazi air raids.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    A surprise attack on American forces in Honolulu, Hawaii by the Japanese Imperial Navy Air Service just before 8am. Until that point the United States had stayed neutral; around 2,400 people including civilians were killed and another 1,000 were wounded.

    The evacuation of over 338,000 Allied forces and British soldiers from Dunkirk, France to Britain.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The largest seaborne invasion in history by Allied powers in Normandy during Operation Overlord. More than 160,000 Allied troops landed. It was successful, with more than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the invasion, but around 9,000 allied lives were lost.
