    This battle took place between Japan and the United States for control over the island of Iwo Jima. The United States wanted to capture the island to use in case something went wrong with the Enola Gay while it carried the atomic bomb. The United States won the battle.

    Hitler's death marked the end of the Nazi's control of Germany. He committed suicide after the Soviet invasion of Berlin.
  • Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima

    Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima
    This was the first-ever use of an atomic bomb in a military battle. The bomb was developed as a part of the manhattan project and was dropped on Hiroshima from the Enola Gay aircraft. Roughly 80,000 people mainly civilians were killed; however, many more later died of radiation poisoning. The decision to use the bomb was made after the battle of Okinawa and was an attempt to prevent as many casualties as possible.

    Atomic Bombing Nagasaki
    The Allies knew it was unlikely that Japan would surrender after the first atomic bomb so a second bomb, Fat Man, was dropped on Nagasaki. It killed 60,000 people and caused Japan to surrender.
