    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated

    While visiting Sarajevo in Bosnia there were many assassination attempts towards Franz Ferdinand the leader of Austria- Hungary and his wife. A couple of them missed but in the end they ended up killing Franz Ferdinand. The Austrians were not very happy and believed that the assassin was Serbian.
  • Britain Declares War

    Britain Declares War

    Great Britain declared war on Germany and the Siege of Liege the first battle of WW1 occurred. The United States declared that we wanted to remain neutral and not be a part of the war.
  • The Lusitania sank

    The Lusitania sank

    Off the coast of Ireland the British passenger ship Lusitania was torpedoed killing 1,201 people including 128 Americans. President Wilson was not very happy and sent 4 diplomatic protests to Germany.
  • Woodrow is elected again

    Woodrow is elected again

    The Americans re-elected Wilson as their president who has campaigned to keep us out of war
  • The Zimmermann Message was intercepted.

    The Zimmermann Message was intercepted.

    The Zimmermann Message between Germany and Mexico was intercepted by Great Britain. The message proposed and alliance between Germany and Mexico against the USA. Britain sent the message to the United States and then made it public. This enraged Americans and some Americans are now in favor of joining the war.
  • America declares war on Germany

    America declares war on Germany

    Woodrow Wilson and the rest of America was not happy about the Zimmermann Telegram so America declared war on Germany
  • American Troops arrive in France

    American Troops arrive in France

    The first American Troops land in France and are ready for war.
  • The Sedition Act.

    The Sedition Act.

    The Sedition act was an act that extended the Espionage act which stated that it forbade the "disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language" about the united states. This affected America because then there wouldn't be people talking about our war plans and possibly having spies listen in. The only problem with this is that it went against the first amendment.
  • The Armistice was signed

    The Armistice was signed

    In a train France and Germany both signed the Armistice ending the fighting. The Armistice went into effect on the eleventh hour of the day, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. America believed that this was the "war to end all wars" so they were very happy that the war was over.
  • The Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles

    In the Palace of Versailles the Treaty of Versailles was signed officially ending the war. It had 230 pages of terms but it didn't exactly go how Germany wanted all the terms to. This was a huge relief to America that the war was over.
