    Siege of Tsingtao
    The Siege of Tsingtao was an attack on the German port Tsingtao by Japan and the United Kingdom. Shortly after war was declared by the Japanese on the Germans, 23,000 men began bombardment of the port, the United Kingdom also sent 1,500 men to help. The Germans despite being outnumbered held out for two months before surrendering and handing over the control of the port.

The battle started with a counter-attack by six French armies and the British Expeditionary Force. The battle of the Marne was a major turning point in the war. The end result was a victory for the Allies but led to four years of stalemate on the Western Front.

    The Battle of Megiddo was the final allied offensive of the Sinai and Palestine Campaign. The British commander received decisive results at little cost. He did this by creeping barrages to break into a state of trench warfare then he used his mobile force to encircle the Ottoman soldiers and cut of their lines of retreat. The battle was a substantial victory for the allies.

    The Battle of Kilimanjaro was a two-pronged invasion on the German colony by the British. The first prong was a advance towards Tanga by the British Indian Expeditionary Force. The second prong was an attack on German defenses at Longido. The battles was an overall loss for the British which had 312 casualties compared to the Germans 109 casualties.

    The Battle of Verdun was the longest battle of WW1. It started with a German attack on the French town of Verdun. The Germans had a 10 hour open bombardment which did push the French back until the British and Russians launched their own attacks.The French retook lost ground in the Autumn and ended up with a defensive victory. In the end the Germans had 430,000 casualties while the French had 550,000.

    The Battle of Jutland
    The Battle of Jutland was the largest Naval battle of WW1. It started with the German High Seas Fleet hoping to weaken the Royal Navy by an ambush attack on the British Grand Fleet in the North Sea. The battle resulted in the loss of 14 British ships and 6,000 men while the Germans lost 11 ships and 2,500 men. The Germans never seriously challenged British control of the North Sea.
  • Battle of Rafa

    Battle of Rafa
    The Battle of Rafa was the final battle to complete the recapture of the Sinai Peninsula by British forces. The attack was marked as the beginning of fighting in the Ottoman territory of Palestine. The advance of the British depended on the construction of a railway and water pipeline. During the assault the Ottoman defended a series of fortified redoubts and trenches surrounded by flat grassland. The Ottoman were eventually encircled by Light Horsemen and mounted riflemen.
