This date marks the beginning of WW1. It all started with Archduke Ferdinand being assassinated along with his wife. This made other countries furious at Bosnia for the death of Archduke Ferdinand but some countries actually were glad this happened. As a result of this, countries became mad at each other and chose sides.

A day earlier Great Britain started to recruit soldiers for war and a day later Charles Williams was recruited to the Army. At the time, he was only 18. In his own words, he describes this as a “Valuable moment”. He was excited since this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

This was the date where he went to his first shootout. He didn’t really get the opportunity to go into no man's land and he was happy about that because if you went there you died. His job is to stay in the trenches but peak over the hill and see if he can get a lucky shot. This battle was called the battle of Mons.

This was the first truce and probably the best truce of them all. The truce was nicknamed the Christmas truce not only because it was Christmas but because everyone came together this day and celebrated together. The soldiers would talk about their wives and kids. The next day, however, they were back to fighting.

This was a battle between Germany and Canada. Germany was going to test their new idea called Poisonous gas. They released 200 tonnes of chlorine gas onto the battlefield. This had at least 6,000 casualties. Canada had to improvise, so they used Urine-soaked scarfs.

This was his first big war and the war was called the battle of Somme. Again, he didn’t go into no man's land but while he was in the trenches, he met lots of french people. He also was talking about one of the French people who were really good at playing cards. Little did the French know, he was also good at playing cards.

The United States of America declares war on Germany. They saw Germany as a threat because they broke their trust. They basically invaded Mexico but they weren’t supposed to. It was against the alliance law.

This is the date where he got terrible news over the phone. He got told that his Grandpa was going to die of lung cancer. The next day he went into no man's land to express his feelings. He shot at least 3 Germans which is a lot for only being there for 10 minutes.

Charles was released from his duties. On his way home he saw the damaged towns and countries. The first thing he would do wasn’t to see his girlfriend but to see his mom and dad. After that, he saw his girlfriend.

This date was the end of WW1. Germany was the one to finally give in. It wasn’t just the generals' idea but it was the soldiers. Soldiers started to hold riots to tell the general to surrender. As a result of the riots, Kaiser Wilhelm the 2nd abdicates, which gave the soldiers what they wanted.
