  • Britian and Australia declare war on Germany

    Due to Germany's invasion of Poland, Britian declared war and Australia, as an ally of Britian also declared war.
  • Invasion of Norway

    The Allies tried to save Norway but failed. The Norwegian military is ordered by the Germans to surrendor and they do. The Germans win this battle.
  • Invasion of France

    The Germans were headed towards the French so defensive fronts were set up at the Somme and Aisne rivers. They were easy targests for the German tanks and Bombs and france was taken over without a fight.
  • Evacuation of Dunkirk

    300,000 soilders evacuated.
  • Battle of Britian

    The Germans bombed the British daily. The British managed to develop technology which gave them a better understanding of when the German air fleet was comming. Hitler made the mistake of making two war fronts and postpones his raids indefenantly.
  • Australia sends AIF to North Africa, Greece and Crete

    Australia sends the second AIF to support British war effort in Europe, especially in the Western Desert of North Africa, Greece & Crete, on Cyprus and the Middle East.

  • Japan enter war

    Japan enters the war.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbour

    The Japanese suprise attacked pearl harbour with bombers. Although they succeded in doing this they also failed because there was no American Aircraft Carriers there at the time.
  • Japan gains on PNG

  • Singapore defeated by Japan

    Singapore falls to Japenese troops. 70,000men captured including Australian AIF 8th Div. This leads to the battle of the Coral Sea.
  • Battle along Kokoda Trail

    The Japanese knew the Americans were going to respond after their attack on Pearl Harbour and moved quickly to establish defensive positions in the Pacific. This would force the Allies to attack each stronghold one at a time which would be very costly for them. Australian soilders were sent to the Kokoda trail and met the Japenese who didnt expect such large numbers. The Allies pushed the Japenese back towards the mountains and took over the airstrip and they used it to fly in more supplies.
  • Battle of Coral Sea

    This was the first battle of carriers ever. Japan wanted pacific dominance and wanted to capture Australia. to do this they treid to servre the communicatiob between Australia and the U.S. They invaded New Guinia and then tried to take over Australia. Although it was a victory for Japan it was also a major setback because it had 2 carries tied up in battle.
  • Battle of Midway

    A naval battle between Japan and America. Japan was trying to lure America into a trap. American code breakers managed to break the Japenese code and set up a counter attack which won them the battle.
  • Battle of El Alamein

    German General Erwin Rommel tries to take out some of the allies defences, but he failed due to strong defence. The British take over and end the battle. The Germans retreat into North Africa
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    The Russians cosider it to be the greatedst battle of their war campaign. The Germans bombed the Rissians but ended up running low on amunation and freezing cold in the Russian winter. The Russians ended up winning the war but there was more then 2 million casualties.

  • Operation Jubilee

    Origionally operation Rutter until bad weather cancelled it. Mainly made up of Canadian troops then British, 237 boats set sail for Dieppe. Before they landed they ran into a German convoy, from there it went bad to worse. The Germans knew the attack was comming and obliterated the Allies when they landed on the 10 mile front.
  • Operation Torch

    The Allies try to take out North Africa through operation Torch. The Allies wanted to take over North africa because it would block of important trade routes acoss the Mederteranian. This worked until German forced were sent and slowed down the operation.
  • D-Day Invasion of Normandy

    The Allies tried to take back over Europe through North of France. This invasion was the biggest amphibious assualt ever recorded and led to the end of WW2
  • Battle of Bulge

    Hitlers plans were to progress to the city of Antwerp and disrupt the Allies much needed supply lines. Hitler succeded but he was fighting a battle all around him. This was Germany's last major offensive attack and it was stopped by the American 2nd Armored division. All the gains made by Germany were undone and the war ended when Hitler realised it was to much and commited suicide.
