    A pact between Hitler and Stalin that agreed on peace between their two nations, preventing a war on two fronts. They also secretly agreed to split Poland between them and allow the U.S.S.R. to talk Estonia, Latvia, and LIthuania.

    Invasion of Poland
    Hitler believes that Poland is land that was taken from Germany in WW I and he wants it back. Britian and France will declare war if Germany entered Poland. On September 1st Germany entered Poland and Britian and France declared war.

    Hitler goes back on the pact and invades the Soviet Union.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    The Japanese bombed the U.S. naval base in Pearl Harbor, intending to destroy the fleet. However the attack brought the U.S. into the war which would later hurt the Japanese.

    The Battle of Midway
    The U.S. navy sank four Japanese carriers, a heavy crusier and, two destroyers. It was thought to be the turning point of the war in the Pacific Theater.

    The Battle of Stalingrad
    The biggest battle of WW II. The Soviets and Germans fought each other for over 100 days, leaving about 1.5 million german soldiers killed, wounded, or captured. Eventually the Soviets beat the Germans, delivering a severe blow that many believe to be the biggest turning point in the war.

    D-Day Invasion
    This was the Allied Powers invasion of Europe. The used false invasion plan named Fortitude to fool the Germans in to believing the would attack at Pas de Calais. This helped the Allied forces greatly. Once in continental Europe the could go through France and Belgium to reach Germany.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    The Battle of the Bulge was Hitler's last all out offensive. He chose a poorly defended area in the Ardennes Forest and counter-attacked on December 16, 1944. They regained a large section of territory, but after several days of fighting the Allies were on the offensive again.

    The U.S. captured the the Japanese stronghold of Iwo Jima placeing them that much closer to Tokyo.
  • Victory in Europe

    Victory in Europe
    THe Soviets attacked Berlin in April 1945, and Hitler committed suicide on April 30th. On May 7, the provisional German government surrendered unconditionally.

    The U.S. forces capture the Island of Okinawa placing the only 370 miles from Tokyo, an ideal place for bombing Japan.

    Bombing of Nagasaki
    The second atomic bomb dropped on Japan resulting in 40,000 deaths.

    Victory in Japan
    With the assurance that the emporer could stay in power, Japan surrendered on August 14th. They signed the formal surrender on the U.S. Battleship Missouri on Septembr 2, 1945.
