  • Pearl Habour

    2 full blown attacks on the U.S Pearl Habour by Japan. 2,400 U.S military and civilians lost their lives, 1,178 U.S military and civilians wounded, and 18 ships and 350 planes sunk or damaged.
  • United States joining the war

    Because of the Pearl Harbour attack, the following day, the U.S declared war on Japan.
  • Germany and Italy declare war on the U.S

    Three days after the U.S declared war on Japan, both Germany and Italy declared war the U.S, backing up their fellow ally, Japan.

    Japan won the battle, however, for the first time, the U.S and Australia were able to stop Japan from invading. The U.S was beginning to use the Island Hopping technique to weaken Japan's forces.

    Batttle of Stalingrad

    Germans violated nonaggression attack with Soviet Union and attacked, in hope to obtain the Soviet oil fields. Germany was unsuccessful and lost 1,100,000 people in battle. This was the turning point in WW2, as the Soviet Army began to move westward towards Germany.
  • Normandy Invasion (D-Day)

    Allied attack on German positions on the beaches of Normandy, France. By the end of the attack, nearly 425,000llied and German troops e killed, wounded, or missing.

    German tanks broke through American lines, in attempt to capture Antwerp. Germany lost to America. 80,00 Americans died and 120,00 Germans died.
  • Yalta Conference

    President Roosevelt , Stalin and Churchill met in Yalta in the Soviet Union to discuss post war. This was the beginning of the United Nations.
  • US Occupation of Japan

    After the war, trials were held for Japanese war crimes, to which 7 out of 28 leaders were found guilty and sentenced to death. U.S occupied Japan for 6 years under the direction of General Douglas MacArthur.

    Truman, Churchill, and Stalin met in Potsdam. They drew up a blueprint to disarm Germany and eliminate the Nazi.

    International court tried Nazi officials. Over 23 nations tried Nazi war criminals in Nuremburg, Germany. 12 out of the 22 defendants were sentenced to death. 200 other official were found guilty, but were given lesser sentences.

    Island in the Pacific that was crucial for US win. 27,000 Japanese held Iwo Jima, 26,800 of them died while only 6,000 US Marines died.

    Japan's last defensive stronghold. Japan used 1,900 Kamikaze attacks. 110,000 Japanese troops died while only 7,600-12,500 US troops died. US victory.
  • President Roosevelt Death

    At the beginning of his 4th Term, resident Franklin. Roosevelt passes away. Vice-President Harry S. Truman takes role of President while the US goes through a grieving period.
  • Hitler's Death

    Hitler and Eva Braun commit suicide (gun shot and cyanide). Later, there bodies were burned.

    General Eisenhower surrendered by the third Reich. V-E y = Victory day in Europe. Symbolized that the 1st part of the War was over.
