This Allied unit returned over 5 million pieces of archives that were stolen by Nazis between 1945 and 1951.

The Marines did this to secure they airfield for the American B-29 bombers

This battle was one of the largest battles of the Pacific war and consisted of Allied forces capturing an island 350 miles from Japan for base at the final invasion over 12,000 US soldiers died while about 100,000 Japanese soldiers and, 150,000 Okinawa civilians were also lost in war mostly due to force fighting caught in the crossfire and even atomic bombs
