  • The Holocaust

    An extremely large genocide in which about 6 million jewish people were killed by nazis that were under the rule of Adolf Hitler. It took place throughout many German territores.
  • Blitzkrieg

    The term "lightning war" in German. The Germans used this on France to destroy their line of defense. They used it on many other neiboring countries also.
  • Germany invades Poland

    The invasion of Poland by Germany, Soviet Union, and a small Slovic companion that marked the beginning of WWII in Europe.
  • Battle of Britain

    An air campaign for the war waged by the German Air Force against the United Kingdom. This occured in Summer and Autumn of 1940. First campaign to be entirely fought by Air Forces/
  • Battke of Midway

    A battle between the USN and the IJN in which the USN defeated the Japanese and caused irreparable damage on the Japanese fleet; It was Japans first defeat in an extremely long time.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    A major battle consisting of Nazi Germany and its allies fighting the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad in South-western Soviet Union, Many civilians were directly assulted by Air Raids throughout the city,
  • D-day

    The day of western allied troops making a great effort to liberate mainland Europe from Nazi occupation. It took place on the French beach, Normandy.
  • Battle of Bulge

    This was a German offensive campaign that was active through the forests of Belgium, France, and Luxembourg towards the end of the World War on the western front.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    A battle in which the US armed forces fought for and captured the Island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Empire and intended on capuring the entire island including the South and Central Airfields to provide an area for attacks on the main land of Japan.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    This battle was codenamed Operation Iceberg and was 82 days long. This was after a long campaign of the known Island Hopping and they were now approaching mainland Japan. They planned to take over Okinawa which was 340 miles away from the Mainland and would make it an base for air operations.
  • V-E Day

    The day Nazi Germany surrendered its entire armed forces and ended World War II in Europe. (not the end of the entire war)
  • Bombing of Hiroshima/Nagasaki

    Bombings conducted by the United States towards the end of WWII in August of 1945. This was the only time nuclear weapons were used in the war.
  • V-J Day

    The day Japan surrendered therefore completely ending World War II. This has been applied to both August 14th and 15th for the different time zones. Also applied to September 2nd when the Surrender document was officially signed.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The military complement to the council for mutual economic assistance. This was a way to help the Soviets maintain control ovet the land.
