With the bombing of Pearl Harbour by Japan, the US is plunged into the war. At around 8 a.m., Japan dropped bombs on the Pearl Harbour naval base. -

The Japanese invaded Singapore and then they capitulated within a week. Since Singapore was a British Stronghold, Churchill said that it was "the worst disaster in military history." -

Most people think that the surrender was because of the bomb, however, it was not. The main reason was that the Soviet Union had entered the war and it was less embarrassing to say they got defeated by a bomb.
