    Hitler Comes Into Power
    On January 30, 1930 Hitler became chancellor. He focused on getting Germany out of depression. This is primarilly how he won the German people over. He built a very strong and threating army. He even focused on nullyfying The Treaty of Versailles. The League of Nations had no power to stop them.

    Germany becomes aggressive
    In 1939 Hitler broke the Munich Pact by taking over Czechoslovakia. Using the Blitzkreig they used sudden attacks with fire power to take over Poland. Germany then signed a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union. By the end of September France and the UK declared war on Germany.

    Germany attacked Denmark in the beggining of April and Norway fell within a month. By the begging of May Germany attacked the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Germany attacked France between the Maginot line. Germany proceeded towords the English Channel and 338,000 troops evacuated.

    Army in America went from 1.4 million to 3 million, Navy from 300,00 to 600,000, marines went from 54,000 to 150,000. Women's Army Corps formed so that women could fight in the war.Ford produced B-24 bombers, bedding companies made mosquito nets. America mass produced goods in helped the economy tremendously. Even Stalin praised American production.

    Allies turn the tide
    Hitler wanted to dominate Europe and eliminate all inferior people. Missolini wanted an Intalian Empire. Tojo wanted control of the Western Pacific and Asia. Chruchill, Stalin, and FDR created the Europe First mantality. Germany was conceived as the biggest threat so they decided to take Hitler out first. Hitler attacked the Soviet Union at Stalingrad. Hitler told his soldiers not to surrender 91,000 surrendered but only 5,000 soldiers would ever return to Germany.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    FDR placed embargo on Japan's important naval and aviation supplies. Pearl Harbor was the US navy's main pacific base. Japan sent 6 aircraft carriers and 360 airplanes. They attacked in two waves, first wave was the main attack and the second wave would finish off the rest. 2,402 killed and 1,282 wounded. December 8th FDR asked congress to declare war on Japan.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The Allies decided to fight a two front war in France. The Americans, The British, and The French fought on the beach of Normandy. There were 6 different assigned beaches they fought at. The beaches were named Utah, Omaha, Sword, Gold, and Juno. Many Americans fought bravely and died but many fought and survived. In 1944 Allies liberated Paris. Many of the Nazi's plotted to overthrow Hitler.

    By January the Soviet Union reached the Odor River outside of Berlin. By April the Americans and the British wereb 50 miles outside of Berlin and were ready for an assault against Hitler's capital. on April 30th Hitler commited suicide. May 7th GErmany surrendered in a school house in France. FDR died shortly after.

    Liberation of Auschwitz
    Soviet Union troops liberated Auschwitz in January. The Allies had known about the Holocaust but honestly did not really care. They didn't realize how serious it was until the camps were liberated. Jews were rail thin and many were scattered around the camp dead. Nazi's had tried to kill as many as they could before they fled the camps. It is reported 4 million people died at this camp.
  • Atomic Bomb

    Atomic Bomb
    In 1942 FDR gave devolpment of an atomic bomb priority. While the production of this bomb was underway FDR died and Truman took his place as president. Truman was told that Japan would take 1 million American lives. Truman made the big descion to use the bomb. In August 6 US pilot dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. It exploded at 9:14 am and in 2 minutes killed 60,000 people.
