This operation meant that Germans was going to attack the Soviet Union by surprise so they have more territory. The German troops were not given the necessary clothing for the temperature so they had big difficulties with that.

The germans and their allies invaded the soviet union, in direct violation of the German Soviet Pact. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The United States immediately declared war on Japan. This caused that later on the United States bombed Hiroshima, Japan.

Surrender
Germany surrendered unconditionally to the Western Allies and Reims and on May 9 to the Soviets in Berlin.
