    Germany and Hitler Super-Duper promised that their ambitions for expanding Germany was only to get German speaking places, and that they would stop expanding their boarders.

    Hitler invades Czechoslovakia
    While the invasion and occupation of Czechoslovakia is important, the more significant part of the event was that Hitler broke the Treaty of Munich, just 6 short months after it was signed. This was the biggest red flag for many of the allies, including the Americans.

    Japan led a surprise attack in hopes to Destroy the US' Pacific fleet and crush the will of the American people. While they did destroy a large part of the fleet, if anything the American people had more will then ever to support the war.

    Just one day after Pearl Harbor, Britain and US declare war on Japan as a response to Pearl Harbor.

    The USA defeated the Japanese here, and after this it was many more victories and the US were able to push the Jap's back in the Pacific.

    Allies attack the edge of the German empire, North Africa.
    The ally forces, mostly British and American, forces attack German occupations in North Africa. They gradually closed in on the Germans.

    After taking North Africa, the Allies invade Sicily. This not only gives them another foothold in Europe, Britain being the other one, it also highlights the changing tide of the war.

    Italy surrenders to the Allies
    With Mussolini being thrown out of office, his replacement quickly surrendered to the US and British. However, Mussolini was freed by the German armies in collaboration with the Itilain armies they took control of so that Mussolini could set up a puppet government in Northern Italy to prevent further advancement of Allies through Italy.

    The allies launched an attack on Normandy, attempting to gain a foothold in mainland Europe, They were successful, however it was not without heavy casualties.

    The Battle of the Buldge was the Germans final defensive stand. When everyone thought it would be a cake walk to Berlin, the Germans were able to put up 1 final stand. Although they were initially successful, they were soon beat back by the Allies.
  • President Roosevelt dies

    The Death of Roosevelt meant that H. Truman would take office. His stance on Communism and the Soviets was much harsher, witch led to the weaking of the alliance and the eventual cold war.
  • My Great Grandfather dies.

    While my Great grandfather was working in a German war supply manufacture in the Netherlands, British war bombers fly over, believing they were in German, they begin to drop bombs. One of these bombs kill my Great Grandfather. Just 2 months before the war was over and a few days before the Netherlands was liberated.

    Both Russian and American forces agreed that it was important that Russian forces should approach Berlin from the East and occupy it after the war and that the Allies should approach from the West and they should occupy it after the war. That is what happened and like the death of Roosevelt it was a big cause of the cold war.

    Basically he said that the war in Europe was over. Victory in Europe was celebrated for days to come.

    Dropping the bomb on Hiroshima marked the start of the atomic age. Some people argue that dropping the bombs was revenge for Pearl Harbor. This also cemented America as a world leader and nuclear power.
