The US declaring neutral shows American that the President is wanting to see how the situation plays out. He wants to see which side the US will support and send all their resources to. He wants to see which weapons and natural resources will be sent to which places and who have allies with. -
A German U-Boat sinks a British passenger liner (Lusitania) off the Irish Coast. It drowns 1201 people including 128 Americans. President Woodrow Wilson sends 4 diplomatic protests to Germany. The Americans who died showed how the war had no good or bad even if you we're neutral. And the President acted on that when he sent 4 diplomatic protests to Germany and Germany, we're the people who sunk the boat. -
Americans re-elect President Woodrow Wilson who campaigned that they kept him out of the war. This decision would determine how America would be involved in the war, what materials would be sent for the war, and how the US would adjust around the war. And it shows how President Woodrow Wilson used the war to his advantage to get re-elected again. -
The British claim a telegram sent by Alfred Zimmermann from a German Foreign Office to German embassies in Washington D.C and Mexico City. Planned an alliance between Mexico City and Germany vs the US. Germany supports Mexico and Mexico would benefit whilst expanding into American Southwest. The telegram gets passed to the US and to be made public. This was US land that they owned token over if Mexico did expand. And when the telegram was published it sent an outcry beyond all the states. -
The United States of America declares war on Germany. This shows how the US eventually chose to side with the allies and how they would have to start using more resources and how they would eventually have to start building their military for war. -
The first American Troops land in France. Leading up to this point the US had now one of the biggest militaries because all men 21-30 we're required to enlist. And as the war continued the max age was 45 and some troops, we're in Europe and America. And this is a standing point for the US because from being neutral it was a sign, they we're officially involved as Allies in the war -
The Sedition Act covered a range of offenses, mainly speech and the expression of opinion of the government or the war effort in a negative light. When President Wilson decided to bring the United States into WW1 brought many opinions from the public. To suppress these opinions the government adopted the Espionage Act and the Sedition Act leading to the imprisonment of 1000+ people due to
protesting the US entrance into war. -
5:10 AM Compiegne, France the Germans sign a Armistice which is effective till 11AM and the fighting continues till 11. 2000 casualties experienced that day. As 11 AM draws near artillery barrages also erupt as soldiers claim they fired the last shot. The last fight consisted of the Allies and the Germans and which the Allies had also included the US. This is significant because the US army consisted of a lot of people and most of the people we're in Europe due to the last fight being in France -
In France at the Palace of Versailles German delegation signs the treaty ending the war. 230 pages contain terms that have little in common with Wilson's Fourteen Points as Germans hope. Germans back home is blamed for the war on Germany. Wilson delivered a speech called Fourteen Points which talked about the causes for WW1. Which included the blame for Germany which started a spread of Germany getting blamed for the war.
