William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in April 1564 and baptized on April 26, 1564. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582, and their children were born in 1583 and 1585. By 1592, he was known as a playwright in London, and his first play, Titus Andronicus, was published in 1594.

He continued writing and became a shareholder in the Globe Theatre around 1599. Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603, and King James I took the throne, with Shakespeare's company becoming the King's Men. Shakespeare died in 1616, and the First Folio of his plays was published posthumously in 1623.
