    William Golding was born in Newquay, Cornwall, England.

    William Golding lived with his rationalist father, Cornish suffragette mother, and his older brother. William said he was a "brat" and got sadistic pleasure from hurting others, a.k.a a bully. William was afraid of cemeteries and his basement. From age 7-12, he began trying to write novels and was heavily frustrated with his continuous failed attempts.

    William Golding went to Brasenose College, Oxford. He read natural sciences for about 2 years and then transferred to English for the other 2 years.

    William Golding taught English at Michael Hall School, Steiner-Waldorf School, and finally at Streatham for 2 years. Soon after, Golding became a schoolmaster. In 1940, he taught English, philosophy, Greek, and drama until he joined the Navy. When he was done serving, he came back to teach from 1945-1961.
