Voting Rights Timeline

  • Consitution is ratified

    Constitution is ratified- All white, land owning males could vote.
  • Religious qualifications dropped

    Religious qualifications dropped- Religious beliefs or affiliations will not matter when voting after this was dropped.
  • Property requirments dropped

    Property requirments dropped- Property ownership andtax requirments eliminated. Also, almost all white males could vote by now.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment- It gives former slaves the right to vote, and protect voting for adult males of other races.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment- This amendment guarantees woman suffrage.
  • 23th Amendment

    23th Amendment- Allows voters in the District of Columbia to participate in presidential elections.
  • 24th Amendment

    24th Amendment- Bans a poll tax as a requirment for voting in federal elections.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Voting Rights Act of 1965- Martin Luther King Jr. mounts a voter registration drive in Alabama, to draw national attention to African-American voting rights.
  • 26th Amendment

    26th Amendment- It set the minimum driving age to 18 years old.
