    13th Amendment
The 13th amendment was established at the end of the Civil War and the amendment was added so that slavery did not exist anymore. Eventually this will lead to the 15th amendment which is giving the male minority group a right to vote. The African Americans will never be able to vote if slavery is not abolished first. This was the first step or leap into the movement to gain African American rights.

    15th Amendment
This amendment gave male African Americans the right to vote. This irritates the southern states so they eventually start making literacy tests for African Americans to be able to vote. Giving the minority a right to vote leads to more because now that all men can vote women are going to want to vote too. This is important because now African Americans have a little bit of freedom.

    Literacy Tests are constitutional!
People in the southern states did not want African Americans to vote so they would give out literacy tests that were really hard for the African Americans to pass. They also used the grandfather clause which was unconstitutional because the African american descendants were all slaves and were not allowed to vote so this made it so that no African Americans could vote because none of their grandfathers got to vote.

Most to all African american grandfathers could not vote because they had no rights anyway and they were slaves so tat left African Americans still unable to vote. This is important because now all African american males could vote no matter if they're grandfather could or not.

Poll taxes were yet a third way of trying to stop the new voting movements. They would make you pay to vote, a lot of African Americans and women could not pay the polls because they didn't have enough money because their jobs don't pay nearly as high as they would if you were a white male.
  • 24th amendment

This outlawed polls taxes. This makes it so much easier for people to vote and a lot more people want to vote now that they don't have to pay. People are also very excited because now everyone can vote.
  • Freedom summer

Freedom summer started when people were walking door to door trying to encourage people to register to vote this took a bad turn when two men were pulled onto a house and then murdered. This was a movement to make all African Americans register to vote in Mississippi.
  • Voting rights Act

This was the end of the movement and it gave the right for everyone that lived in the us could vote without being discriminated against their skin or their gender. This is the most important event that happened after the civil war.
