  • The Great Upheaval

    sourceAlso known as "The Great Railroad Strike of 1877" it began in West Virginia. It was put down by force from local and state militlas and the federal troops. Although not the first strike to occur, it was the first strike that involved so many different workers separated by so much space. While it seemed to have failed due to its lack of organization, it nearly shut down half of the nation's railroad system. It helped create what is defined as a mass strike.

In 10 weeks the value of stock market was cut in half. Caused bank failures. Economy slowed down, leading to unemployment, All these consequences led to the Great Depression.

    Source Plane, Enol Gay, dropped an atomic bomb on Japan. 3 days later another bomb was dropped. This caused Japan to surrender due to the damages done on the empire and its population. A new age of nuclear terror led to a dangerous arms race. The bomb dropping brought an end to the most destructive war in history.

MLK touched the hearts of millions of Americans with his inspirational words. He dreamt of an America of freedom for all skin colors.

The public got good use of it, companies advertised their products, and Internet buying became popular. This helped the economy with more public consuming.
