    Mao Zedong was the communist dictator of China. He led his people on a long march to escape the nationalists led by Jiang Jieshi to hide in the caves in the north-east.He eventually would take over China and rule with an iron fist.

    Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
    Germany started the WW II off by invading Poland using a strategy called Blitzkrieg, or lightning war. This strategy used fast moving tanks and assault vehicles along with airplanes and massive troops to strike before the others could react and destroy the enemy. Britain and France were unprepared for this strategy so it worked pretty well. Great Britain and France had been preparing for the war for a long time, and were postponing it by using a policy of appeasement to stall Hitler.

    Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in a desperate move to knock out the United States Pacific fleet. They got extremely lucky and managed to fly in at just the right time to evade notice until it was too late. Multiple battleships destroyed and the Japanese were dominant for about six months until the US started pushing back.

    Hitler used a hasty plan to split the British and American troops. This plan called for splitting the Americans and British with all of his troops and then surrendering after causing mass casualties. When this plan failed Hitler committed suicide and the Germany was forced to surrender.

    Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    The United States developed the Atomic bombs using Einstines theory of relativity and how, if you split an atom in half, you get an extremely powerful chain reaction. The US rationalized nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki by saying that the remaining million Japanese would never give up and that if they tried to battle their way to Japan they would have thousands of causualties. The president at the time, Henry Truman, made the decision to nuke the two naval ports, which made the emperor surrender.
  • United Nations were formed

    United Nations were formed
    The United Nations were created so that there was a world order that would prevent something like WWI or WWII from ever happening again. It gathered all the Nations together
    to make big decisions. The idea for the UN was created by the big three, FDR, Churchill, and Stalin.
