Misouri compermise

1820

Missouri was made a slave state and Main was made a free state. The effect this had was Slave state for free state. The south thought it wasen't quit even and that caused sectionalism.

The Nullification Crisis

1832

It was a crisis between south carolina and the federal government. It lead to sectionalism becasue the south felt like it was unfair because there was more land in the north vs in the south.

The compromise of 1850

1843

In 1850 laws were passed to make things better between the north and the south. This ended up letting popular soverninty In new mexico and utah. This led to sectionalism because it made people not want slavery as much.

fugitive slave act

The main issue in this event was that it made people want to capture slaves that were running away. Slaves were immpacted by this. This act made the pro slavery people mad because if they didn't capture a slave they were out money, and if the anti slavery people let a slave get caught they feel bad.

Uncle Tom's cabin

1852

Uncle Tom's cabin was a book about how slavery was wrong and why it needed to be abolished. The rich whites were really impacted by this. This made made pro slavery people ban the book in the south. Leading to sectionalism.

Kansas Nebraska Act

1854

The kansas Nebraska act allowed for Settlers to decide whether or not they wanted the states to be free or slave states. Slaves, anti slavery people and pro slavery people were impacted. This increased sectionalism because each side wanted the opposite.

Bleeding Kansas and the patawamanami massacre.

1856

Bleeding Kansas was where pro slavery in anti-slavery people argued whether Kansas would become a free state or slave state. This lead to sectionalism because both sides wanted the state.

Dred Scott Decision

1857

Dred Scott was an enslaved African American who tried suing for his freedom. He had an impact for pro slavery people. Anti-Slavery people did not like him this cause sectionalism between anti-slavery and pro slavery people.

John Browns Raid and Trial

1859

John Brown thought that the only way to make a statement was to use violence. John brown led a raid on harpers ferry, so that they could get guns and stuff and give them to slaves to form a rebellion. Pro slavery people were furious this lead to sectionalism between the two sides.

The Election of Abraham Lincoln

1860

Abraham Lincoln was running in the election to try to solve the issue of slavery or try to remove slavery all together.
