Now there were people living in the south who were abolitionists and people in the north. The south was so worried they started to ban the book.

The main issue with this event was that it added to the tensions between the north and south and it added to the state's own sectionalism. This event affected both Kansas and Nebraska because of popular sovereignty.

    this is the supreme court case in which slaves were found out they can sue and are not considered people. all slaves were effected by this because it is now made clear that the south doesn't think of them as people but as tools to be used. this helped increase tensions through the slaves because now they know what they think of them.

    John brown is an abolitionist who hosted a raid on Harper's ferry, VA. he tried to raid the federal arsenal to attempt a slave uprising. he was then taken into court for a trial and was sentenced to death. this affected the slaves and Southerners by making them think of what was going on. this increased the tensions by making people think about what he had said and that this can only be resolved by blood.

    The election of 1860 is the election of Abe Lincoln. he was a republican candidate and won by a land slide. as a result of this the south felt they didn't have a voice at all and that was the last straw for them. the whole United States was impacted by this election because he was their new president and because, the south now were really mad. this increased the tensions a lot because now there was something in the air between everyone and the war was about to break out.
