  • 1798 Naturalization Act

    This act requires applicants for citizenship to have intentions on becoming a citizen five years prior to application.
  • 1882 Immigration Act

    Congress passed this act that stated a 50 cent tax would be levied on all immigrants coming to the U.S. Immigrants were searched and were not allowed on U.S. land if they are convicts, unables to take care of themselves, etc.
  • 1924 Immigration Act

    This act was passed for immigration to be limited from particular countries. The legislation identified non-quota and quota immigrants.
  • 2004 Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act

    This act was signed by George W. Bush and it was passed in order to unify the intelligent and law enforcement agencies. This law was passed to prevent future attacks on American soil.
