    The transcontinental railroad was a 1,912 mile connecting the existing railroad tracks from the East to West coast.     The Panama Canal was a project that would cut the time significantly that it took for a ship to travel from the East Coast to the West Coast. It connected the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. It was a canal that was first being constructed by French in 1881, but after they failed the U.S took over in 1904 and it was completed in 1914, "In 1914, at the cost of $345 million, the PANAMA CANAL was open for business".

    The entire American economy was mobilized to win the war. From planting extra vegetables to keeping the furnace turned off, American civilians provided extra food and fuel to the war effort. "The seemingly infinite supply of fresh American soldiers countered this potential advantage and was demoralizing to the Germans.     New attitudes towards wealth during the 18 and 1900's brought prosperity to a handful of American business owners such as Andrew Carnegie and John Rockefeller. Even more so provided opportunity to millions of Americans during their expansion of businesses, that eventually led to great wealth.     I think the League of Nations was an important step towards maintaining world peace, especially since it was the first of its kind. Woodrow Wilson had an important impact "He claimed that reductions to trade barriers, fair adjustment of colonies, and respect for national self-determination would reduce economic and nationalist sentiments that lead to war.     The automobile industry was advantageous to many other industries that arose from the creation of the car. Industries including gas stations,motels, diners and restaurants began popping up. The federal highway act of 1921 helped drive industry forward. Americans even soon began to experience traffic jams. I think Americans loved the freedom the automobile provided for a way to travel.

The start of WWII was happening without people knowing yet. Fascism and militarism were the main driving forces of WWII.

    The creation of the United Nations was simple, it was a joint international effort to promote world peace in order to prevent another World War. There are 5 permanent members of the security council which include the U.S, U.K, France, China, and Russia. This was a bug step in the right direction.

    Vietcong was the communist political organization of Cambodia and South Vietnam. Its allies included China, Soviet Union, and North Vietnam. Its opponents included South Vietnam, U.S. "The United States also bombed the Ho Chi Minh trail, a supply line used by the North Vietnamese to aid the VIETCONG.     Civil Right Act of 1964, = ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Feminism played an important role in the act because women felt oppressed by the male gender when they were being discriminated.

    Environmentalist groups and organization started becoming more evident that we wanted to take charge and help protect our earth. President Nixon "In 1970, he signed legislation creating the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, a federal watchdog dedicated to proper care of the planet.     The 1980s experienced a big shift towards television entertainment like ESPN and Nickelodeon. Creations and inventions including the VCR became revolutionary in the war we were able to record shows and watch them later. The first PC was created by Apple in 1977. Silicon Valley became known as the technology hub of America .

    "In the early 1990s, the WORLD WIDE WEB was developed, in large part, for commercial purposes. Corporations created home pages where they could place text and graphics to sell products. Soon airline tickets, hotel reservations, books, and even cars and homes could be purchased online."     "When two students entered COLUMBINE HIGH SCHOOL in Littleton, Colorado in April 1999 with weapons, they murdered thirteen people before taking their own lives.
