  • Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels write the communist manifesto

    the manifesto claimed that the government had ownership over resources and properties. This was a kicking off point for the revolution even though it wouldn't officially start until much later
  • Tsar Nicholas inherits the throne

    Nicholas was not a good leader, he didn't deal with tragedies like the war with Japan very well so he wasn't very liked. The khodynka tragedy was on of the many tragedies that caused an uprising. The khodynka tragedy was when Nicholas held a part and invited over 300,000 people but only had enough for 100,000 people, this news spread and people tried to leave and panic started killing almost 140,000 people.

    Russia loses the russo-japanese war

    Nicholas decided to declare war on Japan because usually war unites people. It did unite them just not for Nicholas, the war cost resources and Russia lost the war which just made the people hate Nicholas even more.
  • bloody Sunday protests

    bloody Sunday happened when a mass of people including a priest started peacefully protesting in St. petersburg outside of the winter palace. they were members of the military stationed outside of the palace ordered by Nicholas to "keep the peace" so to do that they opened fire onto the crowd killing over 200 people.
  • Rasputin killed

    Rasputin was a faith healer who arrived in Russia in about 1904, he eased the suffering of the Queen's son haemophilic son by having him stop taking blood thinners. He then began pulling strings which made the people mad so they tried to assassinate him multiple times and finally they shot him in the chest and dumped his body in the river.
  • Vladimir Lenin arrives in russia

    Lenin was exiled for 3 years after being arrested for a year, he was smuggled in by germains to cause chaos in Russia to cause it to drop out of ww2. When he got back into russia he immediately tried to start lots of movements which (as the germans wanted) caused Russia to drop out of ww2.
  • women's revolution

    On international women's day in Russia there were more than 20-30 thousand women from every social class protesting in the streets with patriotic but forceful signs it then grew to 100,000 people not just women protesting the lack of food. There were newer police members that weren't supplied with the whips to get rid of crowds so whenever they went up to the crowd they would just stop short which made the people more confident growing to 150,000 people later.
  • october revolution

    trotsky said to back a military revolution so in november the government shut down all newspapers in an attempt to stop the revolution. That promptly failed as over 10,000 soldiers revolted to support the bolsheviks a couple hours later they then seized the winter palace.

    red terror

    Vladimir lenin was giving a speech when someone got his attention and shot a pistol at him three times only two of which hit him. The Bolsheviks started the red terror to get rid of any opposition to themselves.
  • Russia signs the treaty of brest-litovsk

    Austria-hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, the ottoman empire, and Soviet Russia signed the brest-litovsk treaty making Russia recognize independence for Ukraine, Finland, and georgia. It also had to give up poland and the Baltic states, Russia signed it because they were ready to pull out of the fighting, the treaty only lasted 8 months before Germany broke all bonds with the soviets therefore renouncing the treaty.

    In 1921 everything got switched to be capitalistic except for the fact that businesses were profit based and the communist standards no longer got applied to the public. Overall it went well and Russia went back to how it was in 1913 when lenin died.
  • Lenin dies and Stalin comes to power

    In January of 1924 vladimir lenin died and Joseph stalin rose to power.
