  • Komagata Maru Incident

    The vessel S.S Komagatu Maru lands in Canada, with 376 passengers aboard, mainly those of Indian origin. The passengers are then denied entry into Canada, which turns into an 8 week stand-off and results in the passengers returning back to India, with many being killed or imprisoned.
  • Canada Goes to War with Britain

    Canada, being part of the British Dominion and unable to decide its own foreign affairs, joins WW1.
  • Departement of Health

    The Spanish Influenza was tragic pandemic that caused around 50,000 deaths in Canada and around 50 million globally. While it left many social and economic damage in its wake, it also paved the way for Canada's first Department of Health in 1919, which made healthcare a shared responsibility for all levels of government.
