Timeline: War Of 1812

  • Washington Proclamation of Neutrality

    The Washington Proclamation of Neutrality had stated that there would be peace, and neutrality between Great Britain and France. George Washington did not want anything to do with European wars because, he knew there would no defense regarding the United States.
  • Jay’s Treaty

    This treaty was made as an agreement between Great Britain and the United States. There were issues such as the British taking their ships, in which led to this event. This treaty is named after John Jay, in which it was intended to resolve the issues between Great Britain and the U.S after the American Revolution had ended.
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    The Washington Farewell Address was made for the audience to realize the significance of the nation being split parties. He knew the political parties were corrupted and around this time very dangerous to the people. The nation as a whole is to be united with another. He also stated that there should no longer be alliances forever, because it could lead to consequences for the U.S.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    The Chesapeake-Leopard Affair was issues on a ship between Great Britain and the U.S. The british HMS Leopard had stopped the “USS Chesapeake” which was the American ship. The reason for their stop was to find runaway troops from the royal navy. It resulted in 4 sailors dying, because the British was rejected by the American captain.
  • Embargo Act 1807

    The Embargo Act of 1807 was invented by Thomas Jefferson, which imposed a law that prevented trade with Americans and other foreign countries. This was deemed to respect the U.S. more by pressing France and Great Britain. Jefferson hoped this prevent from their ships being taken, but on the other hand it also produced a lack of foreign trade or the economy in the U.S. in general.
  • Tecumseh (2)-10/5/1813

    Tecumseh in which was the chief of Shawnee, and he wanted to achieve the tribes being united, so the U.S. could not expand into their land. The United States was ganged up on by these guys, as well as the British. He died in 1813, while fighting in the Battle of Thames.
  • Impressment of Sailors

    The Impressment of Sailors had taken place in Britain. It was forced for the Americans to serve in the British Navy as they were stoped in the ships. This was deemed as a violation of the citizens rights and the authority.
  • War of 1812

    The main events were the impressment of Sailors, giving the Native Americans help so America could not grow, and also the trades is what caused this to happen.
  • War Hawks

    The War Hawks were a few selected nationalist chosen by Congress. The war of 1812 is a cause of this partially, because the war was supported in Great Britain during this time. The british were sending threats to the U.S, even if they was to not fight this would help the gain more territory.
  • Hartford Convection

    The Hartford Convection was a meeting took in New England by federalist. They felt the War of 1812 completely ruined their economy, and had less trading sources. They did not want the government to have all of this power. If the government has less powers, then they can live how they would like. This place is in Connecticut, and this is where they had all of their meetings.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    This treaty was an agreement signed in the Treaty of Ghent, which declared for the war to come to an end. This overall established peace in the nations and resolved the conflicts to prevent further conflict.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The british had conflict with all of the different nations. The militia, troops, Native Americans. Since this war was so significant, the name came about because British had lost. All of these people against British could not stand a chance.
