    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were killed in an assassination, which this event had angered Austria-Hungary, and they felt it was Serbia's fault as the assassins were from Serbia. Austria-Hungary believed this was a reason to go to War and later declared it on July, 28,1914, and began to prepare for their first battle later started at the beginning of August 1914.
  • First Battle of the Marne

    First Battle of the Marne

    The Battle of the Marne started on September 6th, 1914, and ended on the 12th of the same month. During the Battle, the Germans managed to capture a large part of the northeast of France, whilst the British helped France plan a strategic way to attack Germany from all sides, forcing Germany to back down, and the Allies won the Battle of the Marne.
  • The Battle of Bois-le-Prêtre

    The Battle of Bois-le-Prêtre

    The Battle of Bois-le-Prêtre started in September of 1914 and ended in July of 1915, the battle had ended in a stalemate. It was between German and French forces. Both sides of the battle faced suffering due to neither side succeeding in a victory. It was also a series of battles fought out in the woods.

    When Italy entered the war, it appeared neutral but sided with the Allies because of promised gains from Austria-Hungary. In the beginning of the war, the Italian army brought nearly 300,000 men, and towards the end increased to more than 5 million. It was said that 460,000 men were killed and 955,000 were injured during the conflict.

    The Battle of Verdun began in February 1916 and lasted 10 months until its end in December 1916. This battle was considered so horrific because of its 95% rate of deaths from artillery shrapnel. It was the longest battle in the war, and the Germans wanted Verdun cause of the position and sentimental value towards the French, Eugene and his crew were down in the trenches but he said there wasn't many fighting although the Germans would throw random shells towards them every once in a while.
  • Bordeaux

    Bordeaux served as a temporary capital for the French when German forces advanced on Paris. Eugene's force was moved down to Bordeaux because they had a huge hospital there, and it was a major port for American troops in Europe. It also became somewhere for distributing and receiving materials and supplies.
  • The Battle of Belleau Wood

    The Battle of Belleau Wood

    The battle began on June 1st, 1918, and was close fighting between the United States Marine Corps and the Imperial German Army. This Battle had a higher number of casualties, with over 1,000 Marines killed. It was defined to have extreme and heavy artillery, and poison gas throughout the woods. Eugene helped through the trenches in the Battle and helped his buddies in the Marines, also. Eugene receive his purple heart and silver star at belleau woods.
  • The Meuse River

    The Battle of Meuse-Argonne ended on November 11th. Eugene said the night before, on the 10th of November, he and his group were lined up along the river and were running towards the riverbanks. The Germans would throw big shells over, and one had landed in the river, which killed one of his buddies. It was known as the deadliest battle in U.S. history, with 26,000 soldiers killed and almost 100,000 wounded.
  • Signing of the Armistice

    Signing of the Armistice

    Fighting ceased on this date at 11 AM, the signing of the Armistice was an agreement to cease fire towards anyone and everyone. The war had come to an end on the front and soon after there would be another signing officially ending the entire war, whilst this signing was for the allied and axis power to agree upon no fighting. Eugene and his troops were celebrating, he said they celebrated with dances and opposed that German soldiers wanted the war to end as much as they did.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles was signed in order to confirm an official stop on the war, in both sides agreeing and signing it whilst it held Germany responsible for all the actions that happened during and Germany accepting the fault by signing. This was also an agreement so Germany wouldn't be aggressive during this process, this signing ended WWI.
