  • 2014 — BRFSS Overview :

    • CDC identifies BRFSS
      as the world’s largest continuously
      conducted health survey system.
    • Collects 400,000+ interviews
      annually across the U.S.

  • 2017 — Data Retrieved & Stored

    • BRFSS data pulled for analysis
      focusing on heart health
      and access to care in Alabama.
    • Stored in CSV format
      on a secure hard drive in a locked room.

  • May 2018 — Physical Data Transfer :

    • Flash drive delivered to new facility.
    • CSV imported into SQL database
      for storage and analysis.

  • Early 2018 — Expansion & System Upgrade :

    • Organization expands
      and receives funding for a new SQL database.
    • IT administrator copies
      the CSV dataset + codebook to a flash drive.

  • June 2018 — Data Quality Issue Discovered :

    • New data analyst notices
      unreadable characters inside the CSV.
    • SQL import failed
      for multiple rows → data loss identified.
    • Imported row count
      does NOT match original CSV.
