    Known as the deadliest natural disaster. The Galveston Hurricane was estimated to have a death toll of over 8,000. The city was left having to deal with immense challenges and the establishment of emergency aid.

    U.S. Enter WWI

    After Germany resumed submarine warfare, against the Sussex Pledge, and the interception of the Zimmermann Telegram, president Woodrow Wilson lead the U.S. into the war. Out of fear of Americas security and prosperity, congress approved and officially declared war against Germany.

    Congress passed the 19th Amendment in the year 1919. This amendment allowed for American women to vote. The amendment was ratified in the year 1920.

    The U.S. stock market crash of 1929 contributed to the beginning of the Great Depression. Known as "Black Thursday" was the day that the crash happened and but "Black Tuesday" on October 29,1929 marked the start of the Great Depression.

    The Supreme Court ends racial segregation in public schools. This marked the end to the precedent of "separate but equal". Big win for civil rights!

    With over a quarter million people participating in gathering near the Lincoln Memorial. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the famous "I Have a Dream" speech. The purpose of this march was for demands of civil and economic rights for African Americans.
