Attends Newman School in Hackensack, New Jersey

Meets father Sigourney Fay who encourages his writing

Enters Princeton University

Becomes active in literary circles there.

Leaves Princeton to join the U.S. Army during WW1

1917

While stationed near Montgomery, Alabama, meets Zelda Sayre

1918

(Daughter of an Alabama Supreme Court judge) they are engaged though his finances are unstable

Moves to New York City

1919

Gets and advertising job and works on his novel, Zelda breaks off engagement for a time.

Marries Zelda Sayre

1920

Second Novel, The Beautiful and Damned, is published

1922

Also short-story collection tales of the Jazz age appears

Fitzgerald and Zelda move to Europe and join American expatriate community.

Publishes the famed novel the Great Gatsby

Zelda suffers her first mental breakdown first in 1930 second in 1932

Fitzgerald’s drinking becomes problematic

Publishes Tender is the Night, his last completed major novel.

1934

Moves to Hollywood to become a screenwriter in an effort to revive his career.

Begins his final novel, The Last Tycoon

1939

Dies of a heart attack in Hollywood, California.
