  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Reserved all the western territory between the Allegheny mountains, Florida, Mississippi river, and Quebec for the natives. They were upset and disregarded it.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Set taxes on sugar, molasses, other luxurious items. Outlawed importation on foreign rum. Merchants, legislature and town meetings protested the law. They evaded the tax and undercut it.
  • Currency Act of 1764

    Currency Act of 1764
    Prevented paper bills of credit in any colonies to not be with anything. The colonies protested.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    Quartering Act of 1765
    Colonies had to give royal troops housing. They refused (except Pennsylvania).
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765
    Legal documents had to have a stamp. People forged stamps and protested it.
  • Declaratory Act of 1766

    The response to repeal the stamp act. Affirm its power to legislature for the colonies "what so ever". They didn't repeal but tried to compromise.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    A series of taxes and laws imposed upon the colonists. They responded with a Boycott.
  • Boston Massacre of 1770

    Boston Massacre of 1770
    American mob harasses and attacks squad of British soldiers in Boston. The colonists were large outraged at what the saw as a vicious attack on unarmed civilians. They started celebrating massacre day on the date of the attack. They also tried (only killed 5 citizens).

    The Repeal of the Townshend Act
    The result of widespread protest. The only tax that retained was the tax on tea. They also repeated the quartering act.
  • Battle of Alamance

    Battle of Alamance
    Protest against taxation and corrupt local government.
  • The Burning of the Gaspee

    The Burning of the Gaspee
    Gaspee ground was looted and burned by angry colonists. The parliament quickly passed an act. The men involved were sent and tried in England.
  • Committee of Correspondence

    Committee of Correspondence
    Samuel Adams organized the first committee correspondence at Boston, Massachusetts. Established union among the thirteen colonies.
  • Tea Act of 1773

    Tea Act of 1773
    Parliament allowed East India company to sell their cheap tea to colonists not thinking about colonial tea merchants. The colonies never accepted the constitutionality of the duty on tea and this act rekindled their opposition to it.

    Massachusetts patriot dresses as Indians and dumped tea into the water as a protest. The parliament responded with the coerce act of 1774 (Intolerable Acts).

    Intolerable Acts of 1774
    The parliaments response to the Boston Tea party. 5 acts: Boston Port act, Massachusetts government act, Administration of Justice act, Quartering act, and the Quebec act. They adopted the continental Congress.

    Colonial delegates meet to organize opposition the the intolerable acts.
