    First x-ray taken at Davidson College

    3 students, Even Hardin, Pender Porter, and Osmond L. Barringer, snuck into the lab and took an xray with Dr. Smith’s equipment. They took a picture of a finger, bullets, rings, and a magnifying glass. It is important because if you get a broken bone or something wrong with one of your bones x-ray will help to fix the problem.
  • The first modern Olympic Games

    The first modern Olympic Games

    Pierre de Coubertin and Athens, Greece invited 14 nations to compete in the first modern Olympic Games. 280 participants competed in 43 events. Greece won the most the medals with a total of 47. This is important because people are able to do sports and we still compete in the olympics today. Today they still do the Olympics and they do both summer and winter games, there are more events and also more talented people.

    Henry Ford built and test drove a small four wheeled vehicle. There was a chassis and carriage made of wood and it weighed 500 pounds. He invented the quadricycle (the first ever car, more like a bike) in Detroit, Michigan. This is important so people can drive with gas instead of horses. The horses would get tired out, with this you need gas and it will never tire out. We still drive cars today, but now we have electric cars and fast cars.

    The incline elevator along with the double-decker subway was installed in NYC. NYC didn’t like the idea of the double decker subway, but kept the idea of the escalator created by invented Jesse W. Reno. They installed a 7 foot long conveyor in Coney Island. Because it made the moving stairs that we still use today, but they're kind of different.

    Installation of Electric Streetcar/Trolley

    In downtown Santa Barbara they installed their first electric streetcar. The newspaper said that they are no longer using mules. They made a new transportation it is the trolley. Frank Sprague created the electric streetcar. We still use streetcars now in certain places. It helps with public transportation, sending people from one place to another if they don't have a car.
  • Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol

    Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol

    The weapon was created by a famous weapon designer, Paul Mauser. Now it is only used for sport not war. The Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol can shoot 10 bullets, 6 bullets, or 20 bullets one right after another. It is important because it was used during WWII.
