The most notable work of Thomas Kuhn's career was his work in "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions." He wrote his views on how science is structured while in graduate school, but in 1962 it was published as a book. In his work he defined science as functioning in different periods. Most of the time science operates in a normal science period where the current idea is just further explained. "Thomas Kuhn". Uky.Edu, 2019, https://www.uky.edu/~eushe2/Pajares/Kuhnsnap.html.
-
There is very little progress during these periods as the same "paradigm" is the crowning thought. Eventually enough anomalies are discovered forcing a paradigm shift. This causes a crisis and a new paradigm eventually is established based on its ability to best explain the observed. After this revolution we return to the normal science until the next need for a shift arises. "Thomas Kuhn". Uky.Edu, 2019, https://www.uky.edu/~eushe2/Pajares/Kuhnsnap.html.
-
Kuhn also described scientists in a new way. He painted a picture that scientists are not free independent thinkers but instead believe what they are taught until evidence finally shows them differently. "Thomas Kuhn". Uky.Edu, 2019, https://www.uky.edu/~eushe2/Pajares/Kuhnsnap.html.
