Cassette 1: Side A (part a)
After school, Clay Jensen receives 7 tapes from an unknown address. The tapes are about his friend, Hannah Baker, who suicide not long ago. In his house, Clay starts to listen them to understand what made Hannah do such an awful thing. She gives instructions for those who get the tapes. Clay starts to listen them and the first Justin Foley. From that point, Hannah explains why Justin is the first one on her list and why he is a reason that caused her death. -
Cassette 1: Side A (part b)
Clay's mom was disturbing Clay from his listening so he decided to go for a walk to his friend Tony. There, he steals Tony's Walkman to listen to the rest of the tapes. -
Cassette 1: Side B (part a)
The second person on Hannah's list is Alex Standall. He was on the list because he voted Hannah as the Best Ass in the Freshman Class just to revenge on Jessica. -
Cassette 1: Side B (part b)
The third person that affected Hannah's life was Jackass Jimmy. After Alex's list, Jimmy tried to have Hannah in a vulgar way. He just wanted to use her. -
Cassette 2: Side A
As the tape goes on, the next name on Hannah’s list is Jessica. She was Hannah’s friend when Hannah moved to the new town. They didn’t hang out anymore because of Alex’s list of Freshman Class – Who’s hot/ who’s not. Alex tried to revenge on Jessica and that lead to their relationship to end. -
Cassette 2 Side B
The next person who contributed to Hannah's death was Tyler. The house she lived in, the bedroom, were supposed to be Hannah's safe place, but they weren't because Tyler took that away from Hannah by coming and watching through her window at night time. -
Cassette 4: Side A
Clay met with his mom at Rosie's to give him the rest of his tape for "his project". -
Cassette 3: Side B
On Valentine's day, Hannah's date was Marcus Cooley who actually wanted to be with Hannah, but after that day he forgot about her. Because he was just a person who took advantage of Hannah, made him be on the tapes. Also, on this side of the tape, Clay says that he had a crush on Hannah and that he took a job at the same place just to be around her. -
Cassette 3: Side A
While the tapes go one, Hannah's story goes back to Courtney. Courtney invited Hannah to her party where Tyler took the photo that Clay found in the library. After Clay found out about Tyler, he went by his house where he met with Marcus Cooley who lived on the same street and told Clay about the other persons who came there.
