The War on Terror was a campaign started by the United States due to the bombing on the twin towers, 9/11. The campaign was to eliminate international terrorism.

The first attack was on September 11, 2001 when the twin towers were hit in New York and a failed plane crash in Pennsylvania. This event killed over 2,000 people.

In 2002, The US started “Operation Enduring Freedom”. The south Philippines was the first to to begin as a part of Enduring Freedom. The Horn of Africa then begins to be apart of the operation.

In 2004, The US government, led by the CIA’s special activities division began a series of ongoing attacks on targets in Pakistan using drones. These attacks were meant to defeat the taliban and Al-Qaeda’s men that thought they found a safe haven in Pakistan.

In 2009, The Obama Administration stopped using the phrase “War on Terror”. John Bennen announced that we are at war with Al-Queda, not at war with fighting terrorism around the world.

In 2013, The Tsarnaev brothers Dzokhar and Tamerlan exploded bombs at the Boston Marathon on April 15. There were three injured. That night, there was a firefight between the brothers and the police. Tamerlan was killed but Dzokhar escaped. Dzokhar was captured and taken into custody after being found hiding in a boat in Massachusetts.
