The Cylinder
After what many assume to be a meteorite lands on Earth. Several people go to investigate the wreckage. They find a large metal cylinder. it opens and a heat ray kills a crowd of onlookers -
The First Attacks
After returning to his house, the main character stays with his wife until the Martians start wreaking havoc; the main character flees to a nearby village. He returns hours later to his house, he has to avoid Martian war machines. -
The Gas
He finds a soldier and they go to another village that has been fortified by the military, the Martians attack and he flees. he sees a poisonous gas and hides in a house to escape it. -
London
One of the war machines invades London, people flee to a ship. -
Onward
The main character sets out to return to his wife after the gas subsides. He travels until a cylinder lands near him, and he stays in a house for fifteen days. -
The Aftermath
After fifteen days, he reemerges and sees that the Martians are gone. He notes some red weeds, gets some food, and heads to London. While heading there, he stops at an inn. -
The Soldier
He comes across a soldier he knew from before, and they talk and spend the night at his house. -
The Martians
He eventually gets to London and explores the city, he finds all of the Martians dead in a pit. He realizes they died from bacteria. -
Home Again
After staying in a house for a few days, he returned home and discovered his wife was still alive.
