    Golding's first public book of peotry, simply titled "Poems" was released in 1934. The book was widely overlooked by critics and never became popular.

    In 1935, Golding traveled to Salisbury to assume a post as teacher of Enlgish and Philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth's school. Here he met a group of young boys who would help insipre his later works.
  • Joins Navy

    Golding takes a recess from his passion of teaching to join the British Royal Navy and fought throughout WWI. After WWI, Golding stayed in the Navy and fought for England in World War II as well, the war in which he claims to have concluded his philosophy of human evil.

    Upon hsi return form WWII, Golding published his first and most popular novel, Lord of the Flies. The book is widely regarded as a classic and is read thorughout the world in classrooms and such.
  • Goldings book is made into a film

    Goldings book is made into a film
    Golding sold film rights for his book after retiring from teaching in 1972, and the movie released in 1973. The film was directed and produced by Peter Brook.
  • Nobel Prize

    Golding was honored with the Nobel Prize for literature in 1983 mostly for his book "Lord of the Flies".
  • Knighted by the Queen

    Knighted by the Queen
    Golding received one of the highest honors in British society in 1988 when he was Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Passed Away

    Passed Away
    Golding passed away due to a heart attack in 1993, and was survived by his wife and two children. Soon after, his final manuscript was published in his memory.
